I’m thrilled to announce the launch of the OOAK, my newest collection of one of a kind clutch bags. I’ve done a lot of patchwork bags in the past, using scraps that I saved from larger bags. The previous patchwork bags were a bit rough looking, with raw edges and a very “remade” quality.
The OOAK bags are very different and take a lot more time. I see each of them as graphic compositions and unique pieces of art. I started the collection soon after visiting a really interesting restaurant in Williamsburg, called Isa. I loved the comfortable and raw, yet painstakingly organized characteristics of the place. I didn’t even realize until I’d made the first few samples what an inspiration my visit there had been to me until it all clicked. The use of recycled woods and the graphic quality of the bookcases were particularly something that I seemed to pick up on.
Once I made a few of the brown toned OOAK’s, I felt compelled to make some more Spring-timey bags using some beautiful colored suede that I also happened to have – that had been sitting and waiting to be used for about two years.
I’m really loving the outcome and excited to make more for this collection. It also is a great reminder to me of the importance of getting out of the studio, seeing new places and that inspiration can be everywhere.
