One of the best things about living in Brooklyn is all of the seriously talented and creative people who live and work here. I decided to start a series of studio visits with some of these inspiring folk. They each have such interesting and beautiful work spaces, so we did a little photo shoot in their studios. I was even lucky enough to get them to model a bag or two.
The first of the series is perfumer, Anne McClain’s studio, of MCMC Fragrances. Anne studied her craft in Grasse, France and now works out of my old studio space in Greenpoint. Her perfumes are beautifully complex, yet have notes of very recognizable scents. Anne mixes all of her scents in small batches by hand, and each is inspired by a memory from her past. She calls them “The Stories Collection”.
Anne gave me a sample pack when I first met her and I must say that Hunter is my favorite. Here is the story on Hunter:
When I was younger I had a friend named Harrison, who I liked to call Hunter. He lent me the book Ishmael, and played guitar, and taught me about loving the environment. Years later, memories of our long friendship and his adventures building maple sugar cabins in Vermont inspired the fragrance Hunter. With tobacco absolute, organic Bourbon vanilla and fir balsam, this fragrance is best when worn with a flannel shirt.
